Clinton to propose national Immigrant Affairs office
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton on Wednesday will announce plans to create a new national Office of Immigrant Affairs should she win the presidency.
She will also be endorsed Wednesday by the New York State Immigrant Action Fund, one of the state’s largest immigrant rights groups, a Clinton aide said.
{mosads}The new office would coordinate policies and programs across federal agencies and state and local governments to ensure immigrants and refugees become fully integrated into their communities, the aide said.
It would implement recommendations from an Obama task force that looked at ways to improve integration services across the federal government and state and local activities.
Clinton and rival Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) are campaigning across New York days ahead of the state’s primary next week. About 19 percent of the state is Hispanic, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
