Sanders uses Snapchat filters to get out the vote in NY
Bernie Sanders’s Democratic presidential campaign has purchased Snapchat geofilters to help boost voter turnout among the app’s users in Tuesday’s New York primary.
{mosads}“As Sen. Sanders says regularly, if there’s a high voter turnout with a lot of young people at the polls, we’re going to do well,” Kenneth Pennington, Sanders’s digital director, said in an email, Ad Age reported. “Our aim with these advertisements is to remind people that today they get to cast their ballot for Sen. Sanders.”
Both Pennington and a Snapchat spokesman declined to reveal how much the campaign spent on the filters.
Snapchat users can place such filters over photos and videos before sending them to friends.
One filter specific to New York City reads, “New York City vote Bernie Today!” and shows an illustration of Sanders posing with the State of Liberty.
Another Sanders filter is available elsewhere in the Empire State.

A Snapchat spokesman on Tuesday said he is unaware of any other presidential campaign that purchased geofilters for the New York primary.
Sanders’s rival, Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton, and the GOP presidential field all maintain active Snapchat accounts as well.
Clinton’s team posted video of her campaigning in the New York City boroughs of Manhattan and Queens and in Yonkers on Monday. It also released footage of her voting in Westchester early Tuesday.
Republican candidate John Kasich posted video of a Monday townhall in Schenectady, N.Y.
Sanders, a Brooklyn native, trails Clinton by nearly 12 points in New York, according to the latest RealClearPolitics of polls.
Republican front-runner Donald Trump, meanwhile, leads Ted Cruz and Kasich by over 30 points in New York.
