Trump: Clinton couldn’t run for city council without ‘woman card’

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump stood his ground on Thursday over his comments earlier this week that the only reason Hillary Clinton is leading in the Democratic presidential race is because she’s a woman.

{mosads}During an interview on NBC’s “Today,” Trump was asked if the remarks indicated that he doesn’t care about his low polling with women voters.

“Of course I care,” he said. “Nobody respects women more than I do. And I wasn’t playing the woman’s card; it’s true she is playing the woman’s card. Everything she says is about the woman’s card. Frankly, all I’m doing is bringing out the obvious, and without the woman’s card Hillary would not even be a viable person to run for a city council position.”

On Tuesday, the front-runner said that if Clinton were a man, she would fail to get 5 percent of the vote, and that playing the “woman card” is her only strategy.

Trump was also asked if he understands why women find the comment to be demeaning.

“No, I find it to be a true comment,” he said. “I think the only thing she’s got going is the fact that she’s a woman,” adding that her tenure as secretary of State was “disastrous.”

“She is playing that card like I have never seen anyone play it before.”
