Poll: Trump holds 34-point lead in California
Donald Trump leads his GOP presidential rivals by 34 points in California ahead of the state’s primary on June 7, according to a poll released Monday.
Trump is at 54 percent support, followed by Texas Sen. Ted Cruz at 20 percent and Ohio Gov. John Kasich at 16 percent, according to the SurveyUSA poll published by ABC7.
{mosads}All three candidates spoke at the state GOP convention over the weekend, and California is the final major state with delegates needed to secure the GOP nomination up for grabs.
Trump and Cruz are campaigning in Indiana on the eve of that state’s primary. Trump’s rivals look to deny him delegates and hope to force a contested Republican National Convention in July.
But should Trump lock up the GOP nomination, he would face an uphill battle against likely Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in California, according to the poll.
Clinton beats Trump by 22 points, 56 percent to 34 percent, in a hypothetical head-to-head match-up. Meanwhile, Clinton defeats Cruz by 28 points and Kasich by 19 points.
A majority of registered Californians polled, 51 percent, had an extremely negative view of Trump, while 14 percent of registered voters had an extremely positive view of the businessman.
The survey of 2,400 Californians, including 2,011 registered voters and 529 likely GOP primary voters, was conducted April 27–30.
