GOP chief calls for ‘diversity’ on Trump ticket
Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus on Monday said presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump would benefit from a diverse White House ticket.
“I think there has to be a degree of diversity on the ballot,” Priebus said during an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt.
{mosads}”Now, whether it be diversity of age or whether it be diversity of gender or ethnic background, somehow or another, diversity is important in some respect,” he continued.
“Obviously it’s not my decision,” Priebus added.
The RNC chairman’s comments came after the host mentioned Newt Gingrich, who has indicated he’d be open to sharing the GOP ticket with Trump, and Sarah Palin, who has been mentioned as a potential running mate.
“When I hear — God bless Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin — but we need somebody young, because we’ve got a millennium gap here that’s pretty significant with Donald Trump,” Hewitt said.
“I know there’s more involved in that vetting process than I think is being reported right now,” Priebus responded.
“I would kind of just let those VP rumors go by the wayside and assume the Trump campaign understands that while he’s an outsider … he also understands that you’ve got to have a real seasoned veteran,” he said.
