Donald Trump on Wednesday expressed regret over his attacks on former primary rival Ted Cruz’s wife, Heidi Cruz.

{mosads}“I could’ve done without it,” the presumptive GOP presidential nominee said in an interview with The New York Times Magazine.

In March, Trump’s Twitter account shared an image posted by another user that compared an unflattering photo of Heidi Cruz with a glamour shot of Trump’s wife, the former fasion model Melania Trump, with the the caption: “A picture is worth a thousand words.”

The tweet prompted Cruz to call Trump a “sniveling coward” and tell him to “leave Heidi the hell alone.”

Trump had been upset about an ad from an anti-Trump super-PAC that featured his wife posing nude, claiming it was from Cruz. The Texas senator said he had no connection to the group.

“Some people were offended,” Trump said to the Times.

Trump also said it was “maybe” not a good strategy to attack Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, himself a former GOP presidential candidate, in the week leading up to the state’s primary, which he lost to Cruz.
