Missouri Dem: Trump coddles ‘racist supporters’

Rep. Lacy Clay (D-Mo.) fired back at Donald Trump Wednesday for saying Ferguson, Mo., is one of the most dangerous places in the world, accusing the presumptive Republican presidential nominee of coddling his racist supporters. 

“#Ferguson was dangerous for #MikeBrown. NYC was dangerous for #EricGarner. Sandord, Fl. was dangerous for #TrayvonMartin,” Clay tweeted Wednesday, referring to victims of recnt police violence in the U.S.. Ferguson is in Clay’s legislative district.

Trump, in an extensive New York Times Magazine interview published Wednesday, called Ferguson and Oakland, Calif., “among the most dangerous in the world.”

“You go to places like Oakland. Or Ferguson. The Crime numbers are worse. Seriously,” Trump said.

Ferguson was the site of civil unrest in 2014 after a local police officer fatally shot 18-year-old Michael Brown. Oakland was the site of a similar incident in 2009, when Oscar Grant was fatally shot by a transit police officer. The incident was dramatized in the film “Fruitvale Station.”
