Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s son, Eric Trump, needled Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton on Monday for failing to put away “a single socialist” to lock up her party’s nomination.
Eric Trump appeared on “Fox and Friends,” where he made the remark about Clinton’s rival, Bernie Sanders, a self-described democratic socialist, while contrasting the campaigns of his father and Clinton.
{mosads}”She has 730 people working on her campaign staff, we have 70,” Trump said.
“She spent $180 million on her campaign so far, and she hasn’t beat a single socialist. My father has knocked off 17 other people and he spent [$50 million],” he added.
“I mean, that’s the difference between a businessman and a politician,” Trump said.
Sanders has vowed to fight on in the Democratic primary through his party’s convention in late July despite Clinton’s delegate lead. She said Sunday that she’ll listen to Sanders “when he’s ready to talk.”
Trump admitted it will “probably” be tougher for his father once Democrats eventually coalesce around their nominee and shift focus to defeating the presumptive GOP nominee.
“We’ll see,” Trump said. “I’m sure they’ll all coalesce around her.”
“I think he’s going to do incredible well in the polls,” Trump insisted of his father.
“He will win this thing,” Trump said. “He will do whatever it takes to win this thing.”
He also went after Clinton, saying voters are “sick of the scandals, they’re sick of the nonsense.”
Eric Trump insisted Republicans who have shied away from backing his father will come around after the bitter GOP primary, saying, “Sometimes it takes a while to warm up.”
