GOP senator: Trump’s response on Orlando ‘disgusting’

Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) says Donald Trump’s response to the the Orlando nightclub attack was “disgusting.”

{mosads}“That’s beyond the pale. I mean really, just particularly, particularly disgusting to imply that that the president was hiding something,” Flake told KJZZ.

After the Sunday shooting in Florida that left 49 dead and 53 wounded, Trump said President Obama either didn’t understand the radical Islamic terrorist threat or “he’s got something else in mind.” The presumptive GOP presidential nominee said the president either doesn’t get it, or he “gets it better than anybody understands.”

“We’re led by a man that either is not tough, not smart, or he’s got something else in mind,” Trump said earlier this week.

“And the something else in mind, you know, people can’t believe it, people cannot believe that President Obama is acting the way he acts and can’t even mention the words ‘radical Islamic terrorism.’ There’s something going on — it’s inconceivable. There’s something going on.”

On Wednesday, Trump tweeted a link to an article claiming the president has indirectly supported the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, standing behind his remarks that Obama might sympathize with terrorists.

Flake has criticized Trump in the past. He said earlier this month that he couldn’t see himself supporting Trump unless the candidate “changes significantly.”

Flake said he hoped to be able to back his party’s presumptive nominee but said he “certainly can’t right now.”
