PHILADELPHIA — First lady Michelle Obama lashed out at Donald Trump in her speech to the Democratic National Convention on Monday, casting the GOP presidential nominee as a bully who did not represent the true spirit of the United States.
{mosads}While she didn’t mention Trump by name, there was no doubt who she was speaking about as she referred to lessons that she and President Obama teach their daughters, Sasha and Malia.
“We urge them to ignore those who question their father’s citizenship or faith,” she said, a clear reference to the GOP nominee’s public pursuit of Obama’s birth certificate and hints that the president might secretly be a Muslim.
“We insist that they hear from public figures on TV does not represent the true spirit of this country,” she added.
The first lady told a cheering crowd at the Wells Fargo Center that she and the president teach their daughters that when somebody is cruel and acts like a bully, rise above it.
“Our motto is when they go low, we go high.”
