DNC creates cybersecurity board
The Democratic National Convention is forming a cybersecurity board to thwart future attacks on its network, Politico reports.
A memo from acting DNC Chairwoman Donna Brazile explains that the move is in response to a DNC hack that ultimately lead to her predecessor, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, being pushed out of office.
{mosads}“To prevent future attacks and ensure that the DNC’s cybersecurity capabilities are best-in-class, I am creating a Cybersecurity Advisory Board composed of distinguished experts in the field,” she wrote. “The Advisory Board will work closely with me and the entire DNC to ensure that the party is prepared for the grave threats it faces — today and in the future.”
Politico reports the board will include former Department of Homeland Security Acting Secretary Rand Beers, former (and the first ever) White House chief technology officer Aneesh Chopra, former Justice Department prosecutor Michael Sussman and former White House Deputy chief technology officer Nicole Wong.
“Those individuals receiving the data breach notice also will receive offers of assistance to help mitigate any threats to their financial security,” the memo says, an offer in many cases required by breach notification laws.
“We understand that this incident is alarming to all who may be affected and I share your anger at those who committed and abetted this act,” writes Brazille.”Our focus now is preventing future attacks, strengthening our capabilities, and helping protect those whose data was stolen.”
