Pence to campaign with Rubio in Florida: report

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence plan to campaign together in Florida, an aide to Pence told ABC News.

{mosads}The two will appear on the trail together in the state sometime over the next few weeks, according to a Tuesday report, though the schedule is still being figured out.

Pence, Donald Trump’s running mate and Indiana’s governor, and Rubio have reportedly spoken regularly over the phone.

During the primary contests, Rubio and Trump both engaged in harsh attacks on one another before the Florida senator eventually dropped his presidential bid after losing his home state’s primary.

In June, Rubio said he doesn’t plan to make appearances with the GOP nominee.

“Not that I’m looking to undermine him, but I think the differences between us on key issues are so significant that I don’t plan — I’ve got to run my own race,” Rubio said on CNN in June.

The Florida senator also skipped the Republican National Convention last month, instead deciding to address the event with a video. His spokeswoman said Rubio had planned to attend before he decided to seek reelection.

“Since Marco got into the race late, he will be in Florida campaigning and meeting with voters instead of going to Ohio,” Rubio spokeswoman Olivia Perez-Cubas said in early July.

According to the RealClearPolitics average of polls in the state, Clinton has a 3.6-point lead over Trump, 45.6 to 42 percent, though Rubio leads both his possible Democratic opponents, Reps. Alan Grayson and Patrick Murphy, by between 5 and 8 points.
