Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) has raised nearly $5.5 million since announcing he’d seek reelection in late June, according to figures from his campaign.

{mosads}The Florida Republican has raised $3.25 million since July 1, adding to the $2.2 million haul he raised in first the nine days following his last-minute entry into the Senate race on June 22.

Rubio goes into his Aug. 30 primary with $4.6 million on hand as of last week.

Rubio faces a primary challenge from wealthy businessman Carlos Beruff. The candidate, who supports Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, has poured millions of his own money into the campaign, but Rubio is expected to win.

He will likely square off against Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-Fla.) in the general election. Murphy faces his own primary challenge from Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.), but many Democrats have called on Grayson to drop out of the race after allegations of domestic abuse emerged from Grayson’s ex-wife.

Florida’s Senate race could be pivotal in determining which party controls the Senate next year. Democrats need to net five seats — or four seats and retain the White House — to regain the Senate majority. They only need to defend 10 seats, while Republicans need to defend 24.

Murphy also has a well-padded campaign account. He ended June with about $7.2 million on hand.

Recent polls have so far shown Rubio leading Murphy and the GOP senator outperforming Trump at the top of the ticket.
