Bono to Trump: ‘You’re fired!’
Bono has a message for Donald Trump: “You’re fired!”
The U2 frontman went head-to-head against the Republican presidential nominee at a Wednesday benefit concert, engaging in a verbal back-and-forth with a virtual version of Trump.
“Only real question we have for you this evening: What is your vision for this great nation?” Bono asked a giant television screen showing Trump’s image at the Dreamforce concert in California.
{mosads}Edited clips of Trump replied: “I will build a great, great wall on our southern border and I will have Mexico pay for that well.”
“A wall? Like the Berlin Wall? Like the Great Wall of China?” Bono, a donor to the Clinton Global Initiative, shot back to the video screen.
“Now, candidate, you understand it’s not just Mexican people who are going to have a problem with this wall of yours,” Bono said to a cheering crowd in a video from the concert posted on U2’s website. “It’s everyone who loves the idea of America — like the Irish, for example, or the French, or the Brazilians. Everyone who loves the idea of America, everyone who believes what they read at the foot at the bottom of the Statue of Liberty.”
After a clip of Trump saying “If I win, they’re going back” was played, the Irish singer and humanitarian activist continued his debate with the big-screen version of the real estate mogul.
“All of them? I mean, all of us? Now, candidate, good people are not going to stay silent while you run off with the American dream,” Bono said.
“You hear me candidate?” Bono added.
“You’re fired!”
