RNC on Clinton speech excerpts: How can Dems still support her?
The Republican National Committee is looking to sew divisions between Democrats and nominee Hillary Clinton as it deals with fallout over explosive remarks from its own candidate, Donald Trump.
RNC chairman Reince Priebus hammered Clinton for the contents of hacked emails made public by WikiLeaks on Friday that appear to include portions of the paid speeches she gave privately to major banks.
{mosads}In those speeches — which were a major point of contention between Clinton and primary challenger Bernie Sanders — Clinton allegedly says she supports “open borders” and muses about how she is “far removed” from the struggles of ordinary Americans.
“The truth that has been exposed here is that the persona Hillary Clinton has adopted for her campaign is a complete and utter fraud,” Priebus said in a statement. “How can Bernie Sanders and many like-minded Democrats continue to support her candidacy in light of these revelations?”
WikiLeaks on Friday afternoon published a database of 2,060 documents it claims are emails from Clinton’s campaign chairman John Podesta.
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been hostile toward Clinton throughout the campaign, and many viewed the email dump as meant to counter explosive new audio of Trump making lewd comments about women he hoped to have sex with.
The Democratic National Committee countered Priebus’s statement in its own remarks.
“The only remaining question is whether Republicans will continue to stand by [Trump] and call him a role model for our children,” DNC chairwoman Donna Brazile said in a statement.
