Donald Trump on Wednesday attacked the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates, saying the group is “rigged” because one of its co-chairmen worked for former President Bill Clinton.
{mosads}“By the way, you know that so-called Commission on Presidential Debates?” Trump asked the audience at a rally in Ocala, Fla.
“The head guy used to work for Bill Clinton. Did you know that? I just found that out. The head guy worked for Bill Clinton. Ay, ay, ay, what a rigged deal this is.”
“I have no respect for that group, by the way, I have none,” he continued. “It sounds good — presidential commission. Give me a break.”
Mike McCurry, a former press secretary for Clinton, is co-chairman for the commission, along with former Republican National Committee Chairman Frank Fahrenkopf. The commission began in 1987 as a nonpartisan organization and was headed by the two major parties’ chairmen, Fahrenkopf and Paul Kirk.
Trump said on Wednesday that he was glad that he was able to “annihilate” Hillary Clinton in this fall’s second debate “because we’re dealing against a very dishonest system.”
Trump has gone after the commission since he had trouble with his audio levels in the first debate.
