Armed protester stands outside Dem’s office for 12 hours
An man exposed his firearm while standing outside a Democratic U.S. House candidate’s office for 12 hours on Thursday, CBS 19 reported.
Daniel Parks said he was protesting Democrat Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign by standing outside Jane Dittmar’s campaign office in Fluvanna County, Va.
{mosads}”I’m just trying to provide a voice for someone who might be a closet supporter of Trump. Other people who are a little worried to speak out because of possible persecution,” Parks, who supports Republican nominee Donald Trump for president, told CBS 19.
“We’re not a threat to anybody, the only threat is ignorance, and ignorance breeds fear,” he added.
Parks was legally armed and was joined by a second protester later in the day.
While Dittmar volunteers said that they don’t challenge Parks’s right to a peaceful armed protest, they called it an act of intimidation.
“If he wants to support his candidate that’s fine, but don’t come here and stare into the office all day,” said volunteer Su Wolff.
“He turned sideways to be sure that we would see that he has an open carry gun, which is legal, and is fine, but it’s intimidating.”
Dittmar is running to replace retiring Rep. Robert Hurt (R-Va.).
Parks also commented on the reports that Trump may be be pulling out of Virginia.
“He might be pulling out, but we’re not pulling out, and I’m gonna stand my ground and speak out for what I believe in,” Parks said.
