Military expert slams Trump’s offer to ‘teach’ him

A military expert is upping his criticism of Donald Trump, mocking the GOP presidential nominee’s claims of expertise.

{mosads}“I can’t wait to sit down with Mr. Trump and hear what he has to teach me about military strategy,” Jeff McCausland, a professor at Dickinson College, said in a Friday statement.

“I’m happy to compare my record of over 45 years working in national security affairs with his any time,” the retired Army colonel and former dean of the Army War College added.

Trump turned his fire on McCausland earlier this week, saying he could “teach him a few things” about how to run a military.

“I’ve been hearing about Mosul now for three months. ‘We’re going to attack, we’re going to attack,'” Trump said in an interview Wednesday. “Don’t talk about it. Element of surprise. So you can tell your military expert that. I’ll sit down and teach him a few things.”

McCausland responded Friday that Trump “never served in the military and never served in the government,” adding that the GOP nominee’s policies show “he has no understanding of the nuclear triad or nuclear strategy.”

He said Trump’s suggestion of seizing Iraq’s oil fields would have gotten scores of U.S. soldiers killed and caused global conflict.

“It boggles the mind to imagine how many U.S. troops it would have taken to seize the oil in Iraq and how many U.S. casualties we would have suffered,” he said. “Furthermore, this is considered a war crime under international law, and ordering the U.S. military to do so would have created a crisis in civil-military relations with the senior uniformed military.”

McCausland initially told The New York Times last week that Trump “doesn’t know a damn thing about military strategy,” prompting the businessman to respond.
