Conway: ‘Fine with us’ if FBI doesn’t release emails before election

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, on Monday said people shouldn’t push the FBI to rush through its review of newly discovered emails that it says appear to be “pertinent” to its investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while secretary of State.

{mosads}“I would agree with the FBI doing what it can, given the fact that these circuitous investigations usually take time,” Conway said Monday on CBS “This Morning,” when asked if she agrees with the Clinton campaign that the FBI should release all the information it has ahead of Election Day. 

“I don’t think anybody should force their hand. I also think the Clinton campaign is asking the FBI to do something they know the FBI can’t do, which is to rush through — because there’s an election next week — rush through the normal channels.”

When pressed further, Conway said it would “be fine with us” if the FBI says it can’t get through all of the emails and release them by Election Day.

“We don’t want to politicize the FBI,” she said.

FBI Director James Comey on Friday sent a letter to lawmakers telling them the bureau had discovered new emails pertinent to its investigation into Clinton’s use of a private server while serving as secretary of State.

The emails were reportedly discovered during a separate investigation into former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) over an alleged online relationship with a 15-year-old girl. Weiner is the estranged husband of longtime Clinton aide Huma Abedin.

Since the release of the letter, Democrats and Clinton aides have been ramping up pressure on the FBI to release details about the agency’s review of the new emails.

Conway on Monday also criticized Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee, for “engendering boos” for the FBI director during a rally she held this weekend.

“I’m reminded, maybe we’ve been asking the wrong candidate all along, ‘Are you inciting anger and violence at your rallies?’ ” Conway said.

“Are you qualified for president? Are you fit for office?”
