Clinton on FBI email review: ‘There is no case here’

Hilary Clinton on Monday dismissed the FBI’s probe into newly discovered emails its director said may be relevant to the bureau’s investigation of her private email server, saying, “There is no case here.”

“I’m sure a lot of you may be asking that this new email story is about and why in the world the FBI would decide to jump into an election with no evidence of any wrongdoing with just days to go,” Clinton told supporters. “That’s a good question.”

{mosads}”Now they apparently want to look at emails of one of my staffers, and by all means, they should look at them,” the Democratic presidential nominee said at a rally in Kent, Ohio.

“And I am sure they will reach the same conclusion they did when they looked at my emails for the last year. There is no case here.”

FBI Director James Comey sent a letter to members of Congress Friday alerting them of the emails, which were found during a separate investigation regarding Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.). Weiner is the estranged husband of longtime Clinton aide Huma Abedin.

Clinton reiterated that the decision to use her personal email to conduct State Department business was a mistake but has insisted the FBI has “no evidence of any wrongdoing” in revisiting the investigation.

Comey has come under fire in recent days over the letter, which critics say violated Justice Department policy not to take steps in an investigation that could affect an election.

In July, Comey announced that the agency had completed its investigation and that he would not recommend filing criminal charges against Clinton or her aides.

“And they said it wasn’t even a close call. And I think most people have decided a long time ago what they think about all of this,” Clinton said Monday.

How the FBI’s letter might affect the presidential race remains to be seen.

With just over a week to go until Election Day, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump needs to make up ground in the polls, particularly in battleground states.

While some tracking polls found a bump for Trump over the weekend, a survey from NBC News/SurveyMonkey released Monday found virtually no change in the race, with Clinton holding a 6-point lead.

Trump on Monday said Clinton has “no one to blame but herself” for the protracted investigation into her use of a private email server.

“Hillary is the one he set up an illegal private email server in a closet to shield her criminal activity. Hillary is the one who engaged in a corrupt pay-for-play scheme at the State Department,” Trump said during a rally in Grand Rapids, Mich.

“Hillary is not the victim. The American people are the victims of this corrupt system. And this is your one chance, Nov. 8, to change it.”
