Trump: I never thought I’d be thanking Anthony Weiner
Donald Trump on Monday jokingly thanked former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) for his role in the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server.
“I never thought we would be saying thank you to Anthony Weiner,” the GOP presidential nominee said at a rally in Warren, Mich. “I never liked you, Anthony.”
Trump’s comments come after the FBI announced Friday that they were examining newly discovered emails found on the former congressman’s laptop that were “pertinent” to their probe into Clinton’s private server.
{mosads}Those emails were uncovered during a separate investigation into Weiner, the estranged husband of longtime Clinton aide Huma Abedin.
Weiner is being investigated for allegedly sending sexually explicit texts to an underage girl. The bureau has obtained a warrant to search 650,000 emails on Weiner’s.
The revelation that the FBI is examining new emails in connection with their Clinton probe stunned political observers and upended the presidential race with just a week until Election Day.
Trump called Weiner a “major sleaze” at a weekend rally.
A reporter from The Daily Beast noted on Twitter that Trump has previously donated to Weiner.
