Trump camp: Singling out NBC reporter not meant in ‘malicious way’
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s campaign manager says Trump singling out NBC News reporter Katy Tur for criticism during a campaign rally was not meant “in any malicious way.”
Kellyanne Conway on Thursday said she spoke with Tur and NBC News after Trump derided the reporter by name at a Florida campaign event a day earlier.
{mosads}”He obviously didn’t mean it in any malicious way,” Conway told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
“But I’ve spoken to NBC News about that issue, and I’ll leave it there.”
Asked if she wanted to “shed any light on it,” Conway responded: “No, sorry.”
She added that she prefers when Trump talks about “institutions generally” instead of individual reporters.
“I had an exchange with Katy last night, and I’ve been in touch with NBC News,” she continued.
Trump singled out Tur during a rally Wednesday as he railed on the media for its dishonesty and bias.
“We have massive crowds. There’s something happening,” Trump told the audience.
“They’re not reporting it. Katy, you’re not reporting it, Katy. But there’s something happening, Katy. There’s something happening, Katy.”
Other reporters at the rally tweeted that Trump supporters near the media pen followed Trump’s lead, shouting at Tur.
Trump has singled out Tur at previous campaign events, calling her “little Katy” and a “third-rate reporter.”
