Eric Trump: Vulnerable GOP senator can help Trump White House
Eric Trump is making the case for Sen. Ron Johnson, arguing the Wisconsin Republican could help carry out strategy for a potential Trump administration.
Trump told The Associated Press that Johnson could help his father, GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, “from within Washington.”

He added that “people want somebody who’s not a career politician to fix the problems. Our politicians have done very, very little for this country.”
Trump is in Wisconsin campaigning for his father.
Johnson has pitched himself as an outsider as he faces an uphill rematch battle against former Sen. Russ Feingold (D), who previously spent 18 years in the Senate.
He has also aligned himself more closely with Trump in recent weeks, campaigning with the GOP presidential nominee for the first time on Tuesday. He also floated that Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton could be impeached if she wins the White House and called himself and Trump “change agents” during a recent debate.
Democrats pounced on Eric Trump’s comments Thursday. Michael Tyler, a spokesman for Feingold, said the remarks underscore that “Johnson is the Trump family’s personal Washington insider to show them around D.C.”
Feingold is currently leading by less than 5 percentage points, according to the RealClearPolitics average of recent polling.
But Republicans are pouring late money into the race, arguing the Senate fight is closer than what public polling shows. GOP outside groups are poised to spend millions in the final week amid increasing optimism about Johnson’s chances of holding the seat.
Republicans are defending 24 Senate seats. Democrats need to pick up five — or four if they also retain the White House — to win back the Senate majority.
