Poll: Clinton within 1 point in Ga.
Democrat Hillary Clinton is behind by just 1 point in the deep-red state of Georgia, and Donald Trump has comfortable leads in Arizona and Texas, according to NBC/Wall Street Journal/Marist polls released Thursday.
{mosads}Clinton is just behind the Republican presidential nominee 44 percent to 45 percent among likely Georgia voters, with Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson a distant third, at 8 percent.
Trump has also reduced Clinton’s gains in Arizona. He is ahead 45 percent to 40 percent among likely Arizona voters. Johnson gets 9 percent there.
And in Texas, Trump has a 9-point lead, with Johnson at 6 percent.
One of the biggest surprises of the election season has been Clinton’s ability to challenge Trump in traditionally red states, such as Georgia and Arizona. Former President Bill Clinton was the last Democrat to win either of the states, taking Georgia in 1992 and Arizona in 1996.
RealClearPolitics shows Trump leading by an average of 5.7 points in Georgia, though some other polls in recent weeks have shown Clinton within 1.
Arizona has a much closer race, with Trump leading by an average of 3 points, according to the RealClearPolitics tally.
Clinton campaigned at Arizona State University on Wednesday night and has deployed some of her most popular surrogates to the state, a sign that the campaign sees the longtime Republican stronghold as a battleground this year.
The poll is based on interviews conducted Oct. 30–Nov 1. Results are based on samples of 719 likely Arizona voters with a margin of error of 3.7 percentage points, 707 likely Georgia voters with a margin of error of 3.7 percentage points and 679 likely Texas voters with a margin of error of 3.8 percentage points.
