Donald Trump’s campaign manager is already blaming Republican grandees such as the Bush family and Mitt Romney if her candidate loses the presidential election on Tuesday night.
{mosads}”The things that would worry me,” said Kellyanne Conway on MSNBC, “I guess just that we didn’t have the full support of the Republican infrastructure.”
Though Conway expressed confidence as the first polls began to close, she appeared to hedge bets in blaming stalwart opponents to Trump within the GOP.
“And when I say worry, it’s just it would really be too bad if we were narrowly [defeated], and it’s because of, not because of the Democrats or this, that and the other,” she added. “It’s because we have former presidents not voting for us; we have former nominees not voting for us. And that’s gotta hurt.”
Conway, a professional pollster herself, signaled that the Trump team would be blaming Never Trump Republicans if the GOP nominee loses the White House race to Democrat Hillary Clinton.
“When you talk about growing the party,” Conway said, “the idea was growing it but having that base together. And I think it’s very unfortunate.”
Conway made clear in a tweet after the interview that the Republican National Committee and Chairman Reince Priebus were not included in her disdain, only Republicans who didn’t support the nominee:
Trump Campaign & RNC @Reince hand in glove. This is about GOP elected officials bragging they voted 3rd party or skipped top of the ticket https://t.co/qOoTXUHOFL
