Conway: Trump ‘couldn’t believe that he wasn’t winning’ ahead of election

Kellyanne Conway said Wednesday that President-elect Donald Trump “couldn’t believe that he wasn’t winning” in polls ahead of the election.

{mosads}Asked by Matt Lauer on NBC’s “Today” Show if Trump would agree that the election wasn’t rigged, the billionaire’s campaign manager said that Trump feels “the system is rigged” and that he was frustrated by polls and pundits that suggested he was certain to lose to Hillary Clinton.

“When he says the election is rigged, Matt, what he’s really talking about is he couldn’t believe that he wasn’t winning,” Conway said. “He’d look at these polls, he’d hear everybody on TV constantly say he can’t win, she’s a shoo-in, the path is gone, there’s no way, and look what happened yesterday.”

“I think there’s just a frustration for him and for those of us close to him and working for him that you got a lot of people talking to each other and not talking to people,” she added. “And that’s what he was able to do here. He was able to put together a campaign, he and Governor Pence, that talked with people and not at people.”

Conway also described the conversations Trump had with Clinton and President Obama.

Clinton and Trump had “a very cordial, very warm conversation,” she said. “Secretary Clinton congratulated Mr. Trump on his victory and … he commended her for being smart and tough and running a really hard-fought campaign.”

Conway also described Trump’s conversation with Obama as “very warm.”

“We were happy to receive the call from the president, and they had a great, thorough conversation about Mr. Trump’s victory,” she said. “He was congratulated, and I think they resolved to work together.”
