Khizr Khan: It’s up to Trump to unite nation
Khizr Khan, the father of a Muslim U.S. soldier killed in Iraq, is criticizing President-elect Donald Trump for not trying to calm those who are concerned about his presidency.
{mosads}During a Friday interview with MSNBC’s “All in With Chris Hayes,” Khan, an outspoken critic of Trump during the campaign, said that Americans have been told to accept the president-elect as their leader.
“Wait a minute, it doesn’t work that way,” Khan said. “For a successful candidate, it is his obligation to address the concern of all Americans, not only just those that voted for him. And I want to remind Mr. Trump, you have not gotten the majority of the popular vote.”
Khan noted the many people have taken to protesting on the streets in major cities across the country in the days since Election Day.
“Their concerns must be addressed,” he said.
“He must win the respect of everyone and respect is not given by demand, respect is earned, and that is his first step,” Khan added.
“Yet it has been three days that we have not heard anything of reconciliation, anything of leading entire America forward.”
