Jackie Evancho will perform the national anthem at President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony.
“Honored to have @jackieevancho performing the National Anthem at the @TrumpInaugural Ceremony,” Trump aide Boris Epshteyn wrote Wednesday on Twitter.
“She’s an inspiration for all Americans! #MAGA.”
{mosads}Evancho, a 16-year-old “classical crossover” singer, said Wednesday she was recently asked by the president-elect to perform “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
“I am so excited. It’s going to be awesome,” she said on NBC’s “Today.”
“I felt really honored to be able to sing for the office. It’s a great honor for me.”
Evancho performed at the 2010 National Christmas Tree lighting in Washington, D.C., where she sang in front of President Obama. She was also a runner-up on “America’s Got Talent.”
While they might seem like the least political parts of Inauguration Day, national anthem performances haven’t been without controversy. In 2013, Beyoncé admitted lip-synching the national anthem at her performance during Obama’s second inauguration.
