Metro will hand out Trump sleeves for fare cards on Inauguration Day
After releasing a limited edition presidential inauguration fare card without including Donald Trump’s name or image, Metro said Friday that it will distribute free commemorative sleeves featuring the president-elect.
The sleeve, which features an image of Trump and his campaign slogan “Make America Great Again,” will be distributed at 10 Metrorail stations on the morning of Inauguration Day on Jan. 20.
{mosads}Metro released its special edition fare card for the inauguration last month. But unlike the commemorative cards released for President Obama’s swearing-in ceremonies in 2009 and 2013, the 2017 card featured only an emblem of the White House over an American flag.
“The Presidential Inaugural Committee has worked closely with Metro on a commemorative sleeve honoring President-elect Trump’s inauguration. The sleeve will be distributed free of charge on Inauguration Day, January 20th,” Presidential Inaugural Committee Communications Director Boris Epshteyn said in a statement.
“Americans from every corner of this country will be coming to Washington, D.C. for inaugural events, and we encourage everyone attending to take advantage of the discounted price of the Metro one-day pass and purchase their inaugural card in the next week to avoid the expected wait times.”
The commemorative fare cards can be used for unlimited access to the Metro rail and bus systems in D.C. on Inauguration Day. After that, they’ll have to be loaded with money like a standard fare card.
