Dem rep: Expect obstruction from White House on Russia probe

Rep. Mike Quigley (D-Ill.) says President Trump’s administration will likely impede the probe into possible collusion between Trump’s presidential campaign and Russia.

“I expect nothing but obstruction from the White House or distraction from the White House,” Quigley said Wednesday on CNN’s “New Day.”

Quigley added that Trump’s claims that former President Obama wiretapped him last year is an example of the roadblocks investigators may face.

{mosads}“[It distracts] from a bad news cycle, from investigations about Russian involvement in our democratic process,” Quigley said. “Now we have this distraction, this costly, amazing insult to our allies and the intelligence community.”

Trump claimed earlier this month — without evidence — that Obama wiretapped Trump Tower in New York during the 2016 presidential race.

FBI Director James Comey said Monday during a hearing on Capitol Hill that the Department of Justice has “no information” to support Trump’s accusations.

Comey also confirmed that his bureau is probing Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election, including possible collusion between Trump’s campaign and Moscow.

The White House asserted later Monday that there is “no evidence” Trump’s associates colluded with Russia to influence the race’s outcome.
