Al Gore emails DCCC supporters for funds on Earth Day

Nobel laureate Al Gore is sending a fundraising email to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s supporters on Wednesday, according to an advance copy of the email obtained by The Hill.

On Earth Day, the former vice president who has become a leading voice on climate change writes that it is “time to put change into action.”

“It’s up to us,” Gore writes. “In his first 100 days, President Obama has stood with us. I hope you will take this opportunity to stand with him. I’m asking you to join me in a special effort.”

The email comes a little more than a week before the committee’s April 30 fundraising deadline and the end of Obama’s first 100 days in office.

“Media pundits and political analysts will use this deadline to evaluate the strength of support for President Obama and his agenda for change,” Gore wrote. “And, just as important, a strong showing by Democrats will put Republicans on notice that their stonewalling tactics will only elect more Democrats in 2010.”

The email also comes after the DCCC’s March fundraising report went online earlier this week. The DCCC reported raising $10.2 million that month and finished with $3.34 million in their bank account. That outpaced its Republican counterpart, the National Republican Congressional Committee. The NRCC reported raising $5.27 million in March and finished with $3.2 million in their bank account.

Dear ,

Few things in life are certain.

But one thing you can count on is that the broad electoral victory Democrats won last November delivered the opportunity to change direction in this country – it is no guarantee.

And, no one said we weren’t going to have to fight for it each and every day. We can take time today on Earth Day to renew our fight and reflect on the reasons we voted for hope and change.

It’s time to put change into action.

It’s up to us. In his first 100 days, President Obama has stood with us. I hope you will take this opportunity to stand with him. I’m asking you to join me in a special effort, a 100 Days Match Challenge to commemorate President Obama’s first 100 days in office.

April 30th marks the end of the President’s first 100 days and the April filing deadline for the Federal Election Commission (FEC). Media pundits and political analysts will use this deadline to evaluate the strength of support for President Obama and his agenda for change. And, just as important, a strong showing by Democrats will put Republicans on notice that their stonewalling tactics will only elect more Democrats in 2010.

I urge you to take advantage of this special opportunity to have your contribution to the DCCC tripled and to show the world you stand with President Obama at this critical moment.

Make a 100 Days Match Gift today and your gift will be matched 2-to-1.

I can tell you that President Obama has signaled in the strongest possible terms that he intends to take bold steps and harness innovative resources to solve the climate crisis. Not only that, but Speaker Pelosi has said she will personally shepherd climate legislation through.

But neither of them can do it alone – and the clock is ticking. We need a strong Democratic Majority in Congress and the widespread support of concerned Americans like you.

Make a 100 Days Match Gift today and your gift will be matched 2-to-1.

In President Obama’s first 100 days, he has set a profound new course for our economy, our country and our planet. He’s been working 24/7 with our Democrats in Congress to enact the legislation that will strengthen our economy, reform health care and address climate change.

But, true to form, Republicans have reacted by voting “NO” every step of the way. We cannot allow them to continue to throw partisan roadblocks in the way of forward-thinking legislation for which courageous Democrats are fighting and that our country desperately needs at this critical time.

I am making this personal appeal to you because I know how much it matters to have a strong FEC filing at this critical time. It is up to us to demonstrate that the Democratic Party is ready, willing and able to lead the country forward – with money in the bank and people like you willing to stand and fight.

Make a 100 Days Match Gift today and your gift will be matched 2-to-1.

We cannot allow the Republican Party to block President Obama’s smart course for the future. I can’t say it with any more urgency: please take advantage of the 100 Days Match by making a generous gift to the DCCC before April 30. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Al Gore
