NY Daily News: Holocaust victims ‘forgotten by White House’

The New York Daily News on Wednesday published a cover depicting a World War II concentration camp alongside the headline, “Forgotten by White House.”

The photo shows child survivors at the Nazi’s Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in Poland following their liberation in January 1945, according to Getty Images.

The paper’s cover represents a sharp denunciation of White House press secretary Sean Spicer, who has apologized for claiming during a briefing Tuesday that Adolf Hitler never used chemical weapons.

{mosads}The Daily News published an editorial Tuesday arguing Spicer is “not any good” at communicating the Trump administration’s message.

“Every schoolchild knows that Hitler actually did use gas (carbon monoxide and hydrogen cyanide or prussic acid, aka Zyklon-B) to murder millions of Jews in death camps,” it said.

“This is not Holocaust denial — don’t call it that — but you can only marvel at the ineptitude. The only thing more glaring than Sean Spicer’s ignorance is the policy incoherence it now highlights.”

The rival New York Post did not address Spicer’s gaffe with its Wednesday cover, instead focusing on President Trump’s vow that “we’re not going into Syria.”

Spicer on Wednesday said he let down Trump for comparing Hitler’s chemical weapons use to that of Syrian President Bashar Assad.

“On both a personal level and a professional level, that will not go down as a very good day in my history,” he said.
