John Lewis to protest NRA convention
Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) will lead a protest Saturday against the National Rifle Association’s (NRA) annual convention.
Lewis will join hundreds of gun control supporters in a rally against the NRA, which is holding its convention in downtown Atlanta inside of Lewis’s congressional district.
Lewis is teaming up with gun control group Everytown for Gun Safety to oppose what the group calls the NRA’s “guns everywhere agenda.”
{mosads}“Today’s gun lobby agenda includes several dangerous policies, including dismantling our background check system and making silencers more accessible,” Everytown said in a release.
President Trump is scheduled to speak Friday at the NRA convention, a day before the rally. He has signaled support for many of the gun lobby’s initiatives.
The NRA endorses Trump last year and donated more than $30 million to his campaign.
The gun control group, run by former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg (I), will be joined by Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.
Last June, Lewis led Democrats in a daylong sit-in on the House floor to protest Congress’s lack of action on gun control.
