GOP rep: Trump ‘eventually’ will need to release tax returns

A GOP lawmaker says in an interview with The Hill that President Trump “eventually” will need to release his tax returns.

“That’s up to him, but I think eventually he needs to do it,” Rep. Dennis Ross (R-Fla.) said when asked if the president should release the records.

His GOP colleague, Rep. Mo Brooks (Ala.), told The Hill’s Molly K. Hooper that “if we start getting hard concrete information that suggests there is in fact some kind of improper financial activity … then we may have to look at that more seriously.”

House Democrats have not relented in their calls for Trump to release his tax returns after first raising the issue on the campaign trail.

{mosads}Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) told The Hill that he is “not a big conspiracy theorist” but pointed to the FBI investigation into Russia’s influence on the 2016 presidential election and possible connections between Moscow and members of Trump’s campaign.

“[Trump’s] interest in Russia for such a long period of time, and not having his taxes … we think, well, maybe something’s going on here. So just give us your taxes and let’s pull this thing up and get onto the business of the people,” Ryan said.
