Chaffetz: Trump ‘probably’ shouldn’t have hired Flynn

House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) on Thursday said President Trump likely should not have hired former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

“You can argue that he probably shouldn’t,” Chaffetz said on NBC’s “Today” when asked whether Flynn ever should have been hired.

“And maybe, in retrospect, knowing what we know now, he probably shouldn’t have, but nevertheless he did hire him, and he was there for just over three weeks and then he did dismiss him.”

Chaffetz said he thinks Trump made the right decision in firing Flynn.

{mosads}The comments come after a report Wednesday said Trump’s transition team was told ahead of his inauguration that Flynn was under investigation for working as an undisclosed lobbyist for Turkey during the campaign.

Sources told The New York Times that Flynn informed Trump aides he was under investigation.

Flynn resigned from his White House post in February amid revelations that he misled top administration officials about his discussions with Russia’s ambassador before Trump took office.

Aside from payments from Turkey, financial disclosures filed after Flynn resigned revealed he also received payments from Russian companies.
