Kathy Griffin: Trump ‘trying to ruin my life’ over photo
Kathy Griffin on Friday claimed she is being bullied by President Trump over her controversial photo posing with a fake decapitated head resembling the president and accused the first family of “personally trying to ruin [her] life forever.”
“I don’t think I’m going to have a career after this,” Griffin said Friday during a press conference addressing the photo. “I’ve got to be honest, [Trump] broke me.”
“Regarding the image I participated in, the apology stands. I feel horrible,” Griffin continued. “I just wanted to say, you know, if you don’t stand up you get run over, and what’s happening to me has never happened ever in the history of this great country. The sitting president of the United States and his grown children and the first lady are personally, personally trying to ruin my life forever.”
“The death threats that I’m getting are constant,” she added.
{mosads}The president and members of his family criticized the photo earlier this week, calling Griffin “sick.”
“Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself. My children, especially my 11 year old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!” Trump tweeted Wednesday.
In the fallout over the photo, Griffin has had multiple shows canceled and was fired from her position as a host of CNN’s New Year’s Eve coverage.
During the press briefing, Griffin’s lawyer said the Secret Service had contacted her over the photo as well as a threat against the president.
Griffin apologized Tuesday after the photo sparked widespread outrage.
“I sincerely apologize,” Griffin said in a video on Twitter. “I went way too far. The image is too disturbing. I understand how it offends people. It wasn’t funny. I get it. I made a mistake and I was wrong.”
