Lobbyist remains in ICU after baseball shooting
Lobbyist Matt Mika remained in intensive care Saturday as he continued recovering three days after being shot during a congressional GOP baseball practice in northern Virginia.
“Matt has undergone additional surgery and his physicians have reported the positive results,” Mika’s family said in a statement.
“Matt will remain in the ICU through at least the weekend. He continues to communicate with us through notes,” his family said.
The family said that physicians and specialists tending to Mika “expect a full recovery.”

Mika, who is a lobbyist for Tyson Foods, was shot multiple times in the chest and arm when a gunman opened fire Wednesday morning at the Republican baseball practice in Alexandria, Va.
House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) and two others were also hit. Scalise remained in critical condition and was undergoing treatment at another hospital in Washington.
Mika and the other victims were honored at the annual congressional charity baseball game at Nationals Park on Thursday night. The lobbyist, who is a former congressional aide, signed the ball for Thursday’s game.
“While we know there will be difficult and challenging days ahead for Matt and our family, the physicians and specialists at Matt’s side expect a full recovery,” his family said, adding it would be their final update before Mika was discharged from the hospital.
