Dem rep: Time for party to stop ‘rehashing 2016’

Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) said Wednesday the loss of Jon Ossoff (D) in the Georgia 6th District special election runoff should be a sign that Democrats need to stop “rehashing” their loss in the 2016 presidential election and focus on the future.

“Ossoff Race better be a wake up call for Democrats — business as usual isn’t working. Time to stop rehashing 2016 and talk about the future,” Moulton tweeted.

Karen Handel, the Republican contender for the seat, won the election Tuesday night in what became the most expensive House race in history.

{mosads}Moulton said Democrats need to update their message, be more inclusive and have an encompassing job plan. 

“We need a genuinely new message, a serious jobs plan that reaches all Americans, and a bigger tent not a smaller one. Focus on the future,” he wrote.

Democrats were not able to win any of the special elections to replace Trump’s Cabinet members.

During his concession speech, Ossoff framed the Georgia race as the “beginning of something bigger.” 

Moulton’s tweets come as Democrats are turning their focus to the 2018 midterm elections and striving to take back the House.
