WATCH: GOP Sen wants to cancel July 4 recess

Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) said on Wednesday that he wants to cancel the July 4 recess to work on an ObamaCare repeal-and-replace bill that failed to get a vote this week.

{mosads}“I, for one, would like to cancel recess next week and in August … hopefully we get this bill moving and then we move onto tax reform and infrastructure,” Tillis told reporters.

Tillis added that he is “still optimistic we can get it done.”

Even if senators do work through the recess, it’s unclear if the GOP-controlled Congress can send President Trump a healthcare reform bill.

Arizona GOP Sens. John McCain and Jeff Flake said Wednesday they didn’t know if Congress would support the Senate bill, known as the Better Care Reconciliation Act.

“We have people coming out every day against it, some for it,” McCain said.

Fellow GOP Sen. John Kennedy (La.) was also noncommittal, saying, “We’ll see.”

“We made a lot of progress at White House yesterday. We’ll continue to meet and discuss it,” he added.
