Trump jokes about firing Price if healthcare legislation doesn’t pass

President Trump on Monday joked about firing Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price if Republican legislation to repeal ObamaCare does not pass the Senate.

“Hopefully he’s going to get the votes tomorrow to start on the path to kill this thing called ObamaCare that’s really hurting us,” Trump said during a speech to Boy Scouts at the 2017 National Jamboree, which Price — a former scout himself — also attended.

{mosads}“He better get them, otherwise I’ll say, ‘Tom, you’re fired,’” Trump joked to the crowd gathered in West Virginia.

“Better get Senator [Shelley Moore] Capito to vote for it. Got to get the other senators to vote for it — it’s time,” Trump continued, referring to one of the senators who has expressed misgivings about the GOP plan to repeal-and-replace ObamaCare.

Trump’s Monday evening speech in Glen Jean, W.Va., comes one day before the Senate is expected to vote on a motion to proceed on healthcare legislation.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is expected to hold a motion to proceed vote on Tuesday, but it’s unclear whether the Senate would take up a repeal-only measure or an updated version of the repeal-and-replace legislation. Neither is believed to have enough support to pass at the moment.
