GOP lawmaker on Murkowski: ‘Snatch a knot in their ass’

Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) on Wednesday defended President Trump’s criticism of Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) as fair, saying someone needs to go to the Senate and “snatch a knot in their ass.”

“I think it’s perfectly fair,” Carter said of Trump’s decision to criticize Murkowski’s vote against a procedural motion Tuesday to effectively begin the Senate’s healthcare debate.

“Let me tell you, somebody needs to go over there to that Senate and snatch a knot in their ass,” in response to a question from MSNBC’s Ali Velshi. “I’m telling you, it has gotten to the point where how can you say I voted for this last year, but I’m not going to vote for it this year.”

{mosads}A number of House Republicans have been angered by their counterparts in the Senate in the healthcare debate. The Senate passed an ObamaCare repeal bill in 2015. 

“This is extremely frustrating for those of us who have put so much into this effort,” said Carter, who was elected to the House in 2014.

“I serve on the [Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health]. We met for 27 1/2 hours to come up with the American Health Care Act. The American Health Care Act is a good bill. It needs to be voted on. It needs to pass,” he continued.

Murkowski and Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) were the only two Republicans senators to vote against the motion to proceed to debate on the healthcare bill on Tuesday.

Murkowski had voted in favor of the ObamaCare repeal bill in 2015, while Collins opposed it.

Trump targeted Murkowski in a tweet on Wednesday, saying she “let our country down.”

Murkowski responded to the attack, saying she is in her Senate post to govern.

“Every day shouldn’t be about winning elections,” she said. “How about just doing a little bit of governing around here. That’s what I’m here for.”

Carter is the second Republican lawmaker to go after his female GOP colleagues over the past two days.

The Associated Press reported that Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-Texas) said “some female senators from the Northeast” are responsible for the Senate’s inability to pass a bill, an apparent reference to Collins, who represents Maine.

“If it was a guy from south Texas, I might ask him to step outside and settle this Aaron Burr-style,” he said.

Burr, then the vice president, shot and killed Alexander Hamilton in a famous duel 1804.
