China fires back at Trump over N. Korea
China on Monday responded to a critical tweet from President Trump that said he is disappointed in Beijing for not doing more to rein in North Korea.
China’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement to Reuters that it is important to work together to solve the North Korean nuclear issue.
“All parties should have a correct understanding of this,” the ministry said.
{mosads}Trump on Saturday targeted China after North Korea conducted its latest test of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) that Pyongyang said is capable of striking the mainland United States.
“I am very disappointed in China. Our foolish past leaders have allowed them to make hundreds of billions of dollars a year in trade, yet they do NOTHING for us with North Korea, just talk,” Trump wrote in a pair of tweets.
“We will no longer allow this to continue. China could easily solve this problem!”
The test last Friday came less than a month after North Korea conducted its first successful test of an ICBM, signaling a milestone in its stated goal of striking the U.S. with a nuclear-tipped missile.
