Female protesters hold mock duel against GOP lawmaker who suggested one

A group of female protesters Sunday gathered outside Rep. Blake Farenthold’s (R-Texas) office in Corpus Christi, Texas, to challenge him to a debate after he suggested he wanted duel female senators over the ObamaCare repeal bill.

Days after Farenthold suggested he’d like to duel with female senators he blames for the Senate’s failure to repeal and replace ObamaCare, the group of teachers and nurses told local news station KRIS-TV that they would take him up on his request, but with words instead of weapons.

Farenthold told a radio station last week that he would like to settle things “Aaron Burr style” with female senators from the Northeast blocking healthcare legislation if they were male, apparently referring to Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), who voted against the bill. He later apologized for his statement.

{mosads}Corpus Christi’s American Federation of Teachers chapter and local nurses from the National Nurses United/National Nurses Organizing Committee joined together for the mock duel.

To represent the duel, NNU/NNOC member Cynthia Martinez walked 10 paces and then turned around “to hit” Farenthold with facts about healthcare.

“If Rep. Farenthold wants a duel, given the suffering we see every day in this broken healthcare system, nurses will be at his office Sunday for a duel of critical thinking,” NNU/NNOC member Sylvia Higgins said in a press release.
