‘Hamilton’ actor who played Washington rips Trump Confederate statues comment
Christopher Jackson, the actor who played George Washington in the original production of the musical “Hamilton,” blasted President Trump on Tuesday after he suggested that removing Confederate statues would lead to statues of the nation’s first president being pulled down.
“You know NOTHING about #GeorgeWashington Nothing about #America You are in over your head, you Feckless Charlatan. We Stand Against YOU,” Jackson tweeted.

Trump appeared to defend white supremacist and neo-Nazi groups protesting the removal of a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee in Charlottesville, Va., over the weekend.

“George Washington was a slave owner. Was George Washington a slave owner? So, will George Washington now lose his status?” Trump said Tuesday. “Are we going to take down … statues to George Washington?”
Trump made the remark in a heated news conference, in which he defended himself against bipartisan criticism that he was too slow and equivocal in condemning white supremacist groups for inciting violence during the Charlottesville protests, where one died and 19 others were injured when a man drove a car into a group of counterprotesters.
In that press conference, the president sparred with reporters and criticized the “alt-left” for being “very, very violent” in confronting white supremacist and neo-Nazi groups.
