Trump to FEMA chief on Harvey: ‘You are doing a great job’

President Trump praised the head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency on Saturday for his management of the Hurricane Harvey crisis.

FEMA chief Brock Long is leading efforts to control the damage and provide federal resources in the aftermath of the storm that hit southeast Texas on Friday night.

“You are doing a great job – the world is watching! Be safe,” Trump tweeted, retweeting Long.

The first major natural disaster of Trump’s presidency, Harvey is a significant test for both Trump and his FEMA chief.

Trump was hands-on during the preparation for the storm on Friday. He signed a disaster proclamation for Texas ahead of the storm hitting the coast, which he tweeted “unleashes the full force of government help!”

He has been briefed regularly by Long, Homeland Security adviser Tom Bossert, acting Homeland Security Secretary Elaine Duke and White House chief of staff John Kelly.

Harvey was downgraded to category 1 from category 4 during the early morning hours of Saturday, but remained a serious threat to southeast Texas. The full impact of the storm has not yet been tallied and catastrophic flood warnings were still in effect on Saturday.
