Justice Ginsburg Hospitalized for Cancer Treatment

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been hospitalized for surgery to treat pancreatic cancer.

According to multiple news reports, the reliably liberal jurist is undergoing treatment for the cancer. The 75-year-old associate justice had previously battled colon cancer, undergoing surgery in fall on 1999.

Ginsburg has served on the Court since 1993, and is the only woman to currently serve on the court.

Should Ginsburg be forced to leave the Court, she would give President Obama the opportunity to fill the vacancy with a young, liberal vote almost sure to pass a Senate dominated by Democrats.

Pancreatic cancer generally indicates a poor prognosis in its most common form.
