Secret Service: Person arrested after jumping White House barrier
The U.S. Secret Service has taken into custody a person who allegedly vaulted a concrete barrier at the White House.
The incident happened around 9:30 a.m. on the south side of the White House on E Street NW, the Secret Service said. Washington, D.C., police were also called to investigate a “suspicious package” found at the scene.
The south fence line of the White House was briefly closed after the incident and has since reopened. The suspicious package — a backpack, according to Fox 5 D.C. — was cleared by police.

The incident on Tuesday wasn’t the first security breach at the White House this year. In March, a California man was arrested after entering the grounds of the executive mansion. He was reportedly on the property for 15 minutes and came within steps of the building itself before being apprehended.
Another person was arrested on May 16 after jumping a bicycle rack barrier outside the White House. Just more than two weeks later, Secret Service took another person into custody after the individual vaulted a barrier near the White House grounds.
