Gillibrand to Be Sworn In Tuesday

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) announced Monday that Rep. Kristen Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) will be sworn in Tuesday as the newest member of the Senate.

Gillibrand, a 42-year-old congresswoman who represents an Albany-area district, was tapped by New York Gov. David Paterson (D) on Friday to replace Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, who held the seat until resigning last week.

Gillibrand lunched Sunday with Clinton, Paterson and New York’s senior senator, Charles Schumer (D). Paterson had hand-delivered Gillibrand’s paperwork to the Secretary of the Senate in Washington.

The swearing-in ceremony Tuesday will take place at 12:30 p.m.
