Luther Strange: Moore allegations are ‘very, very, disturbing’

Alabama Sen. Luther Strange (R) told a reporter that a new report detailing sexual allegations against GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore is “very, very disturbing.”

Strange told BuzzFeed News reporter Emma Loop that he had “just seen” the report Thursday afternoon, and will soon make a longer statement on the allegations.

“It’s a very, very disturbing report. That’s all I have to say. I’ve just seen it and I’ll have more to say,” the Alabama Republican said.

In a report published by The The Washington Post on Thursday, Moore was accused of initiating an inappropriate sexual encounter with a woman in 1979 when she was 14 years old and he was 32. The report also contains interviews with other women who say Moore pursued them when they were teenagers.

In a statement to the newspaper, Moore, who defeated Strange in an Alabama GOP primary runoff in September, denied the allegations. Moore is currently set to face Democrat Doug Jones in a special election on Dec. 12.

“These allegations are completely false and are a desperate political attack by the National Democrat Party and the Washington Post on this campaign,” Moore wrote.

Strange was appointed to the seat by former Gov. Robert Bentley (R-Ala.) in February following the confirmation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
