US diplomat shot in the foot in Brazil: report
Brazilian police say a U.S. diplomat was shot in the foot during an attempted robbery three hours outside of Rio de Janeiro, the Associated Press reported Friday.
Vice consul Stephanie Bohlen and a man identified as her partner were attacked while driving Thursday night on a coastal road while traveling in the area, federal highway police said. Bohlen’s male partner was not injured.
Bohlen was initially brought to a local hospital, then transferred to a hospital in Rio for surgery.

Angra dos Reis, a popular vacation destination about 90 miles outside of Rio, was the site of another shooting earlier this year. A British tourist, Eloise Dixon, was wounded when she wandered into a rough neighborhood looking for refreshments.
Dixon was shot twice in August when her family’s rental car failed to stop for drug gang members in Agua Santa, a low-income community near Angra dos Reis, according to The Guardian.
Further details on the shooting of Bohlen were not immediately available on Friday.
